What is Toluna?

Let’s explore Toluna’s identity and services for a moment.

Earlier, it was just known as Toluna, the survey website. Now that it appears to be a member of the Toluna Group, the online survey site’s official name is Toluna Influencers. Since many seasoned users still call the paid survey site Toluna, I’ll use that name throughout this review.

Toluna offers its users the opportunity to participate in surveys by brands and market research firms, giving them the chance to share their opinions and influence change in the goods and services they value.

How Does Toluna Work?

Toluna offers a variety of surveys that its users can complete to earn points that can be redeemed for PayPal cash or gift cards to various stores. Toluna will award you 200 points just for trying, even though not all members are eligible for all surveys at particular times.

In addition to taking Toluna surveys, members can earn points by reviewing products, participating in sponsored mini-polls, referring friends, and winning competitions and sweepstakes.

The ease and simplicity of creating an account on Toluna is the one thing I will say works in its favor.

In this business, everyone makes it simple, but Toluna goes above and beyond and rewards you with an additional 500 points, giving you a feeling of almost accomplishment. Even though that only costs $0.17, you’re probably not yet in the members’ area to realize that.

I therefore started taking surveys right away. Really quick and easy ones didn’t have any information about how long they’d take, but once you get into the higher “paying” surveys.

2,500 points for a 35-minute survey sounded AMAZING in comparison to other paid survey websites I’ve belonged to, and I began to get pretty excited that I’d discovered a website where I could earn money with surveys legally.

Toluna Surveys

On the platform, the primary way to earn points is through Toluna’s Survey Center. I had to finish a series of profile surveys after having my account activated. For Toluna to match you with surveys, it uses these profile surveys, which are quick demographic questionnaires.

There are 13 profile questionnaires, and I finished them all in about 20 minutes. For a total of 1,300 points, you will receive 100 points for finishing each survey. These profile surveys paid a total of 37 cents because 3,500 Toluna points are worth $1.

I navigated to the Survey Center to begin taking longer surveys after finishing my profile surveys. You can click the “Start Survey” button at the top of the page to be directed to a random survey, or browse the selection of available surveys.

I always had a wide selection of surveys to choose from. There were a few times when the survey center ran out of opportunities for me, but that only happened after I had repeatedly successfully completed surveys.

Each survey has a brief description that includes the general subject matter, the time required to complete it, and the number of points you will earn for doing so.

I participated in surveys on a variety of subjects, including digital subscriptions, grocery shopping, travel, and beauty products, to name a few. I discovered that the majority of surveys asked me to look over concepts and marketing materials for goods and services that were still being created.

The surveys’ levels of difficulty also varied. Most of them had open-ended or simple demographic questions, while others required me to fill out time-consuming charts. The questionnaires might also be quite repetitious.

These surveys were conducted in a variety of ways, some of which were hosted on the Toluna platform and others which were conducted by outside survey companies and aggregated by Toluna. There were a few inconsistencies, but overall, I thought the descriptions of each survey were fairly accurate.

The reward amount, for instance, occasionally differed from what I received in actual cash. I was directed to a different survey than the one I had started, which is why this happened. Furthermore, I discovered that the surveys typically took a little less time to complete than was stated.

The more time I spent using Toluna, I discovered, the less frequently I was disqualified. I didn’t waste much time because, when I was disqualified, it typically happened after just one or two questions. But on occasion, after more than five minutes of answering questions, I was informed that I wasn’t a good fit for the survey or that it had reached capacity.

Members can take surveys on the go with the Toluna mobile app. The community features that you can access on the website are not available through the mobile app, which only supports surveys. When I used the mobile app instead of the computer to take surveys, I discovered that I was disqualified from them much more frequently.

How Much Money Can You Make?

On Toluna, it is not difficult to earn enough money to receive a payout or reward. However, the speed at which you can complete it will obviously vary depending on how frequently you complete surveys, where you live, and whether you utilize some of the other ways to earn points on the website.

I’ve estimated that you’ll typically spend between 10 and 15 minutes from where I live. for a survey that gives you 4000 points. Unquestionably acceptable for a survey site. Additionally, the surveys frequently cover fascinating subjects, making it a great opportunity to voice your opinion.

You can also create your own content on Toluna and earn bonus points for doing so. Given how quickly you can create polls and questions, if you can produce content that will earn you rewards, it can be a fairly quick way to earn a little extra money.

However, you won’t be able to predict your reward until after the fact. If you choose to use this option, make sure to create something that people will find engaging because it will award you between 100 and 1000 points.

Inviting friends to join Toluna Influencers is another way to earn extra points. Once you have logged in, you will see some buttons beneath your username that allow you to email or share a link with friends on social media. However, this is not a very efficient way to earn points since you only receive 500 (roughly 15 cents) for each friend who signs up.

Overall, Toluna Influencers can definitely help you earn some nice side income to help you pay bills, treat yourself to a little extra luxury, or buy something nice for someone you care about.

Just keep in mind that you shouldn’t determine the hourly pay before deciding whether to join, just like with any other survey website.

Even Toluna agrees that taking surveys won’t lead to financial success or a full-time online income. However, it can be a fantastic and simple way to make some nice extra money and at the same time get your point of view across.

Is Toluna a Scam?

At the very least, read this section of the review if you don’t have the time to read it all.

Early on, Toluna appears to be very alluring, largely because of their fantastic user interface and enormous rewards points for relatively brief and simple surveys.

The first time you stop into their Rewards Center, however, you’ll notice that their point-to-redemption ratio is 30x poorer than many of their competitors. In comparison, a survey network like Ipsos i-Say only requires 100 points per $1 redeemed whereas Toluna requires 3,000 points per $1 redeemed.

Every paid survey site I’ve looked at had disappointingly low time to earnings ratios, typically around the equivalent of $1 to $2 per hour. Because of Toluna’s remarkably high rewards redemption ratio, even though it feels like you’re accumulating points faster, you’re actually accumulating them even slower and earning an even poorer hourly pay.

It’s the poorest paying survey site I’ve reviewed by far and, along with the other reasons I’ve outlined in the review below, there’s just absolutely NO WAY I can recommend Toluna. Finding a part-time job or possibly starting your own part-time online business would result in much higher pay.

Is Toluna Worth It?

Toluna is a trustworthy, user-friendly survey platform with high standards. It may be a practical way for you to earn money in your spare time because there are numerous chances to receive cash rewards, receive online discounts, and win prizes.

The platform cannot, however, serve as a substitute for your regular employment. If you have a few hours to spare, you ought to consider working on it. The website might also be an adequate choice if you’re a student who needs some extra cash for a coffee or Netflix.

Toluna’s Community Section

In addition to surveys, Toluna offers ways to earn a very limited number of points through its “Community” section.

Each Community feature was put to the test to determine whether it was worthwhile for you to use or not. I discovered that generally speaking the Community section didn’t have much to offer and that it was best to concentrate on the surveys.

The Community section is split into five parts:

• Games:There are two games in this section that you can play to score more points. One is an easy scratch-off game you can play once a day, and the other is a photo booth where you can take and share pictures.
• Polls:You can respond to polls from Toluna and the public in this section. By responding to the Toluna surveys, you can gain points. To see how the general public voted, you can also view the poll results.
• Topics:The Toluna team as well as other users have posted articles in this section for you to peruse. By expressing your own views in response to these articles, you can respond. Contributing to this section will not grant you bonus points.
• Thumb It:In this section, users can make social media style posts with photos and text, and community members can give them a “thumbs up” to show support. You won’t receive any extra credit for taking part, just like in the topics section.
• VS Battle:Users can view the community results and pick one of two options in this section. An example of a VS Battle would be “Burger King and McDonald’s face off.” Voting on VS Battles won’t grant you any extra points.

The Community section, in general, struck me as being clumsy and out-of-date. It took some time to determine precisely what each section was meant to accomplish because it was challenging to navigate. Even so, it appeared that other community members were regularly using these features.

Furthermore, I didn’t believe that this section would allow me to gain enough points to be worthwhile. Only in the Polls section did I receive any bonus points, and even there, the earning potential is fairly modest. User-run polls do not offer any rewards, but Toluna-run polls do, with each poll paying 15 points (roughly half a cent). And Toluna appears to only publish new polls every few months or so.

Conclusion

Toluna is something you can use to make a little extra money in your spare time, though it won’t replace a full-time job or even a more conventional side hustle.

We discovered that the hourly payout was marginally above the median when measured against other paid survey websites. Additionally, the survey options were consistently of high quality.
